MEINI, Guido
STRENGTHS: Solid point-guard that does not take risks. At his best alongside talented outside players that can create shots off the dribble because, on offense, he does not need to touch the ball much. Good body structure, he can drive in without getting pushed around by the physical contacts. When he wants to, he can defend on the ball and 1-on-1. When he finds his rhythm he dares more on offense.
WEAKNESSES: The exact opposite of a point-guard, he does not create anything for his teammates. He does not make the offense flow and overall, he’s often in trouble when put under pressure. Average ball-handling and court vision, bad timing when he passes the ball. He does not score many points, he never thinks of shooting. He seems to believe to be stronger than he really is. Free-throws? Percentages?
CAREER: From Tuscany, Italy, he started off in Montecatini’s youth ranks, where he came back in 2002-03, after a few (modest) seasons in the lower divisions with Massa and Cozzile. A starter when the team was promoted, he then suffered when Spinelli broke out. He had to wait to be sold to have an important role again. Has not done any wonders in the 20 minutes or so he’s been given in the Lega2 since 2007-08.
EVALUATION: Overestimated, he’s not young any more and has limited upside. His stats are not that bad but he’s a playmaker that does not contribute in the running of the plays, he does not defend with regularity and he’s presumptuous. He does not do much dirty work or little things. Weak fundamentals and poor attitude.
