Antonio BUENO
BUENO, Antonio
STRENGTHS: A frontline player with technique and soft hands. He has the size of a center but he’s capable of playing alongside another big man thanks to his ability to move around the free-throw line from where he can shoot and pass the ball. Interesting individual technique, he can play the low post and score with a baby hook or other moves. Natural talent, when he does ‘his’ things, he makes very few mistakes and has an impact on the offense. WEAKNESSES: His footwork is slow to play as a 4 and he’s physically too weak to play as a 5. Slow and like a fish out of water when he moves out of the paint. He has little body control and tends to disappear when physical battles occur. He struggles to finish off in traffic and bobbles passes as well. From a standstill he’s slow. He makes careless fouls. Below average rebounder and team defender. Do not have three-point range. CAREER: One of the stars of the Junior Spanish team, he never convinced in the various opportunities he had at the top level in the ACB. Disappointed with Real Madrid, he did ok at Badalona as a rotation player. In brief, he did well when it was not expected and failed to respond when he was given responsibilities. He had an average season with Estudiantes, spent two more meaningless years at Caja San Fernando before nicely bouncing back at Fuenlabrada in 2009-10 and earning another contract at DKV Juventut in the summer. EVALUATION: He does have potential, but he has not been able to express it so far. Except for a short revival at Fuenlabrada, his career never took off despite having numerous opportunities to prove his worth. There is a feeling that it might already be too late for him. There are doubts on his style of play as he seems to depend too much on his technique and be taken out of the game too easily when it becomes physical. A decent big man, nothing more.
