KAKIOUZIS, Michail
STRENGTHS: A forward who can play as a 3 when required. A pure warrior who lives it out on the floor, a luxury to have him come off the bench. Can bring a lot to the team with limited court time, always seems to contribute. Technically complete, good dribbling and passing skills, plays with intensity and possesses a high basketball IQ. Tremendous feel for the offensive rebound. Amongst the front line players, he’s one of the best shooters.
WEAKNESSES: He was a star as a 3 when he was at AEK but struggled to play this position once he moved to more athletic leagues. Not very quick with his feet, he struggles to defend on quicker forwards. Lacks the first step and the talent to take 1-on-1 opportunities. As a four, he has to improve his game around the basket. Lacks size on defense and on rebounds.
CAREER: Came out of Ionikos, went to AEK in 2005-06 when the team from the capital had many big men. At the beginning, he had little playing time but made the breakthrough in a game versus Treviso and entered the starting five from then on as a small forward. Literally sensational when AEK won the historic title. He kept his winning ways with Siena and the National team. He played in big teams such as Barcelona and Efes. In Le Mans, France, in 2010-11.
EVALUATION: Has not been acknowledged as much as he might have deserved at the beginning of his career. One of the most solid players in Europe. He might not be as talented as others but he always gives his all, does the things that can change the course of the game. He is versatile and always brings something to the team when he comes off the bench. He suffered from the evolution of the game as he seemed to find himself half way between a 3 and a 4. A winner.
