Igor RAKOCEVIC
RAKOCEVIC, Igor
STRENGTHS: A natural scorer. When everything clicks, there is no stopping him. He can score the basket in so many different ways: Uses his power and body control to drive, usually easily gets by his opposite defender off the dribble, can change speed and direction and possesses an excellent pull up jumper. Lethal three-point shooter. A player who can’t be given the minimum space. Fearless. WEAKNESSES: Has always had great stats but without ever winning much. There are doubts about his capacity to be a leader at the very top level. He needs to have the ball and take many shots to be at his best. Has never found his true position, moving regularly from point to guard. Undersized as a 2, as a point-guard, he doesn’t involve his teammates enough as a 1 and his decision making is not excellent. CAREER: An amazing prospect when he was at Red Star, second round pick at the NBA draft. However his career did not take off. Came back with a bang at Buducnost. Then lost a year spent mainly on the T-Wolves bench before coming back in Europe. 21ppg with Valencia. In 2005-06, he struggled as he got a minor role in Real Madrid. Had three good seasons at Vitoria but he did not fit in that well at Efes. EVALUATION: Still has to prove he can be a great player in the very best teams of Europe. Still, he’s one of the best outside players in the continent in terms of scoring ability and his capacity to take over offensively. Needs a system suited to his characteristics. Seemed to have found it in Vitoria.
