Zeljko ZAGORAC
ZAGORAC, Zeljko
STRENGTHS: Forward with good technique. Can score points. At his best as a tactical 4 where he can take advantage of his quickness. Offensively talented, he can score in many different ways. On his day, he can change the momentum of the game by taking over offensively. Ball-handling skills are top shelf. Can get by his man off the dribble, post up, he likes to go down the baseline. WEAKNESSES: A tweener. The game of a 3 and the speed of a 4. Does not have the physique of a front line player: he’s not very tall and needs to bulk up. Struggles when physical contact occurs, does not make good use of his body. Not eager to sacrifice. Average and unwilling defender. A streaky player. He has moves and qualities but the team has to adapt around him. CAREER: Used to be considered a great prospect of Slovenian basketball after the European Championships Cadet in 1997 (13.4ppg+11.6rpg). Came up in the excellent youth system of Olimpia. However, he failed to gain court time at Ljubljiana and was sent on loan first at Triglav and then at Geoplin but without good results. Then, he spent two seasons in Germany before coming back to Slovenia with Domzale where, with a spell in Poland and Russia in the middle, he spent three of the last five years. EVALUATION: Has interesting potential, somewhat a bit wasted by a bad attitude. Was considered a great prospect but never produced what was expected of him. Even when he put up some decent stats, he never won much. Needs a team built around him. Can be very useful as a tactical 4. A star in lesser European leagues.
