Juan Carlos NAVARRO
NAVARRO, Juan Carlos
STRENGTHS: One of the best European players on offense. Very complete with a large array of tools: shooting, dribbling, coming off the screens, Pick & Roll, stop-and-shoot, floaters, very difficult to stop. A slim body, very quick and explosive with great body control. Fast shooting release, get by his man off the dribble and good passer when he drives in. An NBA type of player with a lethal three-point shot. WEAKNESSES: Never been a true point guard despite his attempt to do so. He’s lightweight to play 2. He can be caught forgetting about his teammates. He has to be free to take his shots. There have been concern about his charisma and capacity to be a leader, often labelled as a ‘softy’. Relies on his talent and might not do the extra work, his 2-point shot percentage is not that good and has to improve on defense. CAREER: The symbol of Barcelona, has always played there, collecting decent playing time before he even turned 20. He dominated in the youth national teams and was a key player of the World Championship won in Japan. Drafted by Washington in the second round, he’s eventually made the move to the NBA before coming back to Barcelona where he won everything, including the Euroleague 2010. EVALUATION: When they gave up on the project to make him a point guard, he literally exploded. He soon became one of the main men of Barcelona and the national team. As a scorer, he has few peers, can take care of business on offense almost single-handedly. One of the best in Europe at his position. PHYSICAL/ATHLETIC SKILLS : ***
