Florent PIETRUS
PIETRUS, Florent
STRENGTHS: Amazing athlete who plays with a dazzling amount of energy. Solid body, can hold position against bigger guys. He’s a fighter, he will leave it out on the floor and give his all on defense where his versatility and his athleticism is a massive plus. He can defend on outside players and centers. Blocked shot ability is top notch. Catches the rebounds way over the rim. Likes to run the court, and he attacks the basket without fear. WEAKNESSES: His attitude has always been his down side. Quite immature and rarely controls his emotions. Tends to have lapses. Bad relationships with the referees. Does not have a feel for the game. Not a clutch player, he’s prone to make a mistake at the wrong time. Has to work on his offensive game: his technique and outside shooting are below average. Struggles when he has to score the basket in traffic or when he’s forced to dribble. CAREER: Came up with Pau Orthez where he had court time at an early age and made an immediate impact. Was already a starter before even turning 20. Averaged double figures in 2002-03 in France’s ProA (10.5ppg, 6.1rpg) earning himself a call from the national team for the European Championships 2003. From then on, his numbers have slightly dropped till he went to Malaga where he’s been disappointing at his debut in the ACB. Back up role at Valencia since 2008. EVALUATION: He had what it takes to become a great player in Europe. But he has only shown his potential with flashes. Apart from his unrefined technique, his main drawback is his attitude. He had experiences at the highest level and he had the opportunity to emerge but never made it. Does he have hunger to improve?
