Paccelis MORLENDE
MORLENDE, Paccelis
STRENGTHS: Talented combo guard. Good size for a point-guard. Athletically excellent: he’s quick, explosive and has body control. At his best when he is not tied down by tactical schemes. He has the talent to create plays on offense. He can drive past his defender and finish off his drives with power. He can score in different ways: From three, pull-up jumper. He’s capable of putting great pressure on defense. CAREER: He was an NBA prospect at the beginning of his career. He went through the youth ranks with Dijon, and played his first major minutes there in 1998-99. He broke out in 2001-02 (10.8ppg, 2.5rpg), and earned himself a contract with Virtus Bologna, Italy. Injured, he never played there and came back to France. Second round pick in the NBA draft, his career never took off. He disappointed in Serie A and ACB. Signed for Hyeres-Toulon in 2010. EVALUATION: Whoever appreciated his potential at the beginning of his career was disappointed, as he did not reach the expectations. He had opportunities but he failed to take advantage: showing inconsistency, mentally and technically. On the other hand, who is solely looking at his current level, sees a good 1-2 who can give a hand in average teams.
