Andrew BETTS
BETTS, Andrew
STRENGTHS: Massive, powerful, he loves the contact and wins most of the physical battles. He makes his presence felt in the paint, where he grabs rebounds. Considering the size, he is dynamic enough, he makes the effort to run the court. A good target for the kick outs inside the paint. Has a decent individual technique. He can score points with his baby hook and can play 1-on-1 going towards the center. Decent free-throw shooter. CAREER: After a great season at Long Beach, he was picked in the second round of the NBA draft. However, he played his whole career in Europe. He had a tough debut in Bologna, did better in Reggio Emilia but it’s in Greece, in the physical style of the ESAKE league, with the AEK that he broke out. A lot was expected of him when he moved to Tau Vitoria in Spain but he disappointed. Had ups and downs as well in Badalona. Cajasol was his next stop and once again he felt more at ease in Greece with Aris. Signed for Budivelnyk in summer 2010. EVALUATION: He had his moments in Greece but in the ACB, where the style is not as physical, he did very little. Still, he’s a pure center who can give his contribution if he limits himself to what he can do. Don’t expect him to be a star, he’s difficult to fit in modern basketball. He’s paying the price for being initially overrated.
