Lubos BARTON
BARTON, Lubos
STRENGTHS: Talented player with solid fundamentals. Versatile, he can play as an outside player but he also has the size to play as a tactical second frontline player. A no-nonsense player, he makes few mistakes. Complete, he can handle the ball and help create plays. He can hit the three from kick-out or with the pull-up jumper. He has a good feeling for rebounds and steals. He can post up. WEAKNESSES: There are doubts about his mental aggressiveness and his attitude. He suffered a few injuries in the past, which prevented him from performing with consistency, which constitutes one of his main flaws. A good performance is often followed by a sub-par game. On defense, he struggles against quicker opponents and atypical forwards. CAREER: He became a star of his national team very young (19ppg at the European Championships 1999). He played at Valparaiso College where he received the attention from the NBA but he was never picked at the draft. He followed his career in Italy, first with Fortitudo where he showed some glimpses of his potential (10ppg in the Euroleague). Signed by Rome, he had two disappointing seasons before moving to Badalona, Spain, where he stayed four seasons. Played just a few games for Barcelona in 2009-10 before signing for Fuenlabrada in the summer. EVALUATION: Has yet to develop in the player he could be. He is a good rotation player but he never is decisive. He is a typical tweener, struggling to find playing time as a 3 and who is a bit lightweight for the 4 position. He might not become a star but he’s still a tactically important player who needs to play in the right context. Does he have the right attitude?
