Christophe BEGHIN
BEGHIN, Christophe
STRENGTHS: Frontline player with decent offensive technique. He’s tall and big, has good mobility and quickness in the open court. Clever, concrete, he has a good attitude, he works hard. He does a lot on the court and that shows on the stat sheet. On offense, he possesses some moves with his back to the basket. Soft hands. He can face up and hit it from mid range. WEAKNESSES: His main drawback is his lack of athleticism. Not reactive with his feet in narrow spaces. He has neither explosiveness nor leaping ability. His moves are slow and mechanical, he struggles to finish off in traffic. He does not have the talent to express his game at a higher level. His personality is more suited to a role of star man on offense rather than one who does the dirty work (1-on-1 defense? Help defense? Rebounds?). Forces too many shots. CAREER: He came up with Aalst, but he soon moved to Ostende, where he had the best moments of his career. He had his first meaningful playing time and a fringe role in 1999-2000. He broke out in 2001-02 averaging double figures, becoming a Belgium international and an influential player in his country (15.8ppg, 8.8rpg in 2002-03). He played in Italy as well (7ppg, 3.6rpg in 2004-05). He signed for Charleroi and Pepinster once he came back home. He then had two good seasons at Antwerp before trying his luck again at Charleroi. EVALUATION: An excellent frontline player for the Belgium league where he is one of the only native player to do a good job in the paint. He is neither talented nor spectacular, but when he can do ‘his’ things, he’s a solid player that can score points and give a hand on the rebounds. A problem is that he lacks athleticism and does not have the mentality to change his style of play at a higher level.
