Marko MARINOVIC
MARINOVIC, Marko
STRENGTHS: Tough-minded guy. Always plays to the maximum of his possibilities. Makes very few mistakes, he’s solid, steps up a level when needed. Good face-up player, with the ability to hit the three as well as drive. He’s not afraid of physical contacts. Excellent shooter: can hit the pull-up jumper, shoot off the dribble, off the Pick & Rolls, catch and shoot. Good passer. WEAKNESSES: There are doubts about his best position. As a play he often fails to give rhythm to the offense, unable to up the tempo when needed, while as a guard he lacks size and offensive talent, especially in 1-on-1 situations. Below average athlete, not very quick and nor is he explosive. Struggles to contain quick opponents on defense. He doesn’t seem to have much margin for improvement. CAREER: A late bloomer. Was not noticed as he played at youth level. Had little influence playing early on. In 2002-03, he even got lost in the Serbian second division where he averaged 16ppg with Borac. His arrival at FMP didn’t draw much attention. However, he surprised people playing at a great level and overcoming a serious car accident that took him out of action for quite a while. Three years in Spain, two with responsibility on average teams and one with a minor role at Valencia. Plays the Eurocup with Berlin in 2010-11. EVALUATION: A little bit of extra talent could have made him one of the best combo-guards in Europe. He’s indeed very tough-minded and has the ability to make the best of what he’s got. Might not have much margin for improvement. However he proved he was reliable, leaving everything on the floor on each outing. At his best when he plays alongside another combo.
