Aleksandar SCEPANOVIC
SCEPANOVIC, Vlado
STRENGTHS: Good-sized outside player. A pure shooter. He’s prone to big scoring outburst thanks to his three-point shooting. Extremely experienced, he knows what he does on court. Good mover without the ball, he shoots coming off the screens, punishes the defense’s mistakes. He’s a zone breaker. Perfectly suited to an organised system, he sticks to what he’s asked to do and does not make careless mistakes. WEAKNESSES: The age is a factor. He has little energy left in his legs to work on screens. He’s become more and more of a spot-up shooter. When his outside shooting do not go in, he becomes useless. He does not create much for his teammates, he does not take part in building the plays. Average ball-handler, he does not have the quickness to attack off the dribble. Needs to be fed. Defense? CAREER: A great prospect of Serbian basketball, he’s been one of the best YUBA players for years with Buducnost. He’s never emerged as an influential player in Europe, failing miserably when he crossed the border (see experiences at Efes, Turkey, and Fortitudo Bologna, Italy). Solid for two seasons with limited tasks in the middle of all the champions at Panathinaikos, Greece. Even better at PAOK (15ppg), then two decent seasons at Granada before the decline in 2009-10 in Murcia. EVALUATION: He has been playing at the top level for years and he’s starting to wear out. After years of being a shooting specialist on important teams, he had to accept to play with less ambitious teams, in which he has to contribute with points from the arc. In the slow rhythms of the Greek ESAKE league, as well as in Granada, he did a good job because the talent is definitely there, even at an advanced age.
