MONROE, Chris
STRENGTHS: Guard with a feel for the game on offense. A pure scorer, he can take over. Solid body, tough, he does well when contact occurs using it in his favour. He scores in traffic like no others, strong hands (rebounds), he draws fouls. On offense, he can either score from three (open, with the jumper, on Pick & Rolls) or drive in. Extremely patient, cunning.
WEAKNESSES: He’s a bit short to play as a 2 with regularity at the top level. He’s not a great athlete, he lacks quickness, explosiveness and leaping ability. He needs his teammates to open spaces for him, he does not have the talent to create his own shot with continuity. More of a threat without the ball than in 1-on-1 situations. A pure finisher, he does not improve his teammates. Many turnovers.
CAREER: From Maryland, he played college ball near from home. He faired excellently at George Washington, where he was the first scorer of the history. All-first rookie team of the A-10, then all-third team as a sophomore, all-second team as a Junior and finally all-first team as a senior with 20.3ppg and 5rpg. He took part in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, had a brief experience in the CBA and then he played in Austria and two years in Hungary.
EVLUATION: He was lost in low-level leagues until recently, he’s now one of the top scorers of the Italian Lega2. A pure scorer, very effective. Technically, he’s not a leader even though he has attributes and competitive spirit. He performs better as a first offensive option than as an offensive specialist. Can he make it to the next level?
