Robert ARCHIBALD
ARCHIBALD, Robert
BORN: 1980 WEAKNESSES: Very physical and often too much. He struggles to control his competitive spirit as he tends to argue too much with the referees. Not an easy guy to deal with for his teammates. Rarely kicks it out back when he receives the ball on the low post. Needs to dribble a lot before creating his shot. Makes a lot of fouls. He sometimes loses his concentration. On offense, his touch can improve. Average rebounder. Has little agility. CAREER: Scottish, he came up in the USA where he played in high school and college. He played in the prestigious Illinois school, then a real powerhouse famous for its physical style of play. He had two years in the NBA where he did very little. He moved to Valencia in Europe where he’s been disappointed but he bounced back in Pesaro, Italy, and Badalona, Spain. He had a season in Azovmash before flying back to Spain and Malaga in 08-09. Has been an important player of the rotation inside as he is in its third season there. EVALUATION: He managed to gain playing time in the ACB, the only European league where tall big guys like him can play in spite of the evolution of the game. He brings physical presence, he’s solid on defense where he shows good competitive spirit. On offense, he’s not a big talent but he can score a few points and influence the game with his presence. His main flaw, apart from rebounding, is his lack of discipline.
