Alex SCALES
SCALES, Alex
STRENGTHS: A guard that can score points. Old-fashioned player, his aim is not to entertain. He can be the first offensive option at the top level. Good size and decent athleticism (quickness, leaping ability). On offense, he’s a pure guard, good mover without the ball, he makes good use of screens and cuts. His main quality is his three-point shooting: open, coming off the screens , with the pull-up jumper, with rhythm. Good attitude. WEAKNESSES: On offense, he’s a pure finisher who has to score points in order to be productive. He needs to be the focal point and be fed. He does not have the talent to create off the dribble. His 1-on-1 game is raw. He does attack the rim with courage but without being a real threat. He creates little for his teammates, he does not open spaces and is a below average passer. Oddly poor from the foul line. CAREER: Right from the start in his college years, he had a tormented career, which unfolded in four different continents. He made his pro debut in Italy and ended up in Argentina. He played several times in China, Korea and obviously in the NBA minors, with experience with the pros only in pre-season. Showed some flashes of great basketball with Real Madrid in 2005-06. Good scoring seasons at Aris and Samara were halted by an injury. Back to his best at the beginning of 2010-11 with Mersin, Turkey. EVALUATION: He has gathered experiences just about everywhere starting at a very young age. He showed important qualities in his return to European basketball. He does not have the talent to be a top team player but, at the level just underneath, he proved he could have an impact thanks to his three-point shooting and his good attitude.
