Rudy FERNANDEZ
FERNANDEZ, Rudy
STRENGTHS: Naturally talented. He’s athletically strong. He’s mature way beyond his years. He is able to turn on his magic but remaining a team player at the same time. He makes it all look very easy, has great body control and his ball handling is outstanding. Quick first step, especially when he drives to his right, and he can create his own shot or find the open man when he’s in traffic. He’s a scorer but can help as well as create plays. WEAKNESSES: He suffered from being labelled an NBA prospect at a very young age and lost a bit of his efficiency and consistency in his game. Sometimes opts for the spectacular situation over the most effective one. He still has to prove he can be a leader. CAREER: He made his mark with the youth national team and was upgraded to the senior team straight from the 2003-04 season in which he already averaged double figures in the ACB (11ppg, 4rbs and 40% from 3). Took part in the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, had lots of ups and downs the following year, especially at the beginning of the season but he eventually came back strong leading Badalona into the Euroleague. Did well in the NBA with Portland, which kept him despite the player’s apparent desire to come back to Europe. EVALUATION: Extremely talented, one of those players born to play basketball. He can have an impact on the game in so many different ways. He adapted well in the NBA with Portland, but showed sign of being home-sick this summer. He has become the star everybody expected him to be. PHYSICAL/ATHLETIC SKILLS : ****
