Goran DRAGIC
DRAGIC, Goran
STRENGTHS: Left-handed point-guard. He has talent, personality and he’s mature for a player his age. The fundamentals and the mentality are the ones of someone who likes to work for his teammates. He’s composed, decision making is good, rarely makes careless mistakes. Does a good job of setting the tempo and moves well without the ball. Long-armed, has good size and athleticism. Excellent ball-handler and passer. Works well off the Pick & Rolls which he uses to drive and find the open man. WEAKNESSES: Young and inexperienced before arriving at Olimpija, he has learned how to run a team with talented guys around him and at the same time to be a threat as a scorer in Ljublijana and then at Phoenix. Physically not very strong, still needs to bulk up. Doesn’t seem to trust his three-point shot as he doesn’t trigger very often and his percentages are rather disappointing. Working on his right hand and learning to face the help defence when he drives should be a priority for him. CAREER: He literally broke out in summer 2005 after a career, up to then, without much impact on his club or the youth national team. After tallying 15.3ppg at the European Championships Under20, he had a great season with Geoplin, being one of the top scorers of the Adriatic league. Moved the following summer to Tau Vitoria who sent him on loan. Breakout year came at Olimpija (9.7pts, 3.2ass in the Euroleague), then the move to the Suns, where his court time and stats are improving every season. EVALUATION: One of the best European prospects at his position, it’s no wonder he was another young player signed by Tau and that he made it to the NBA . He’s a modern player, with a lot of talent and creativity. The game comes easily to him. His progress was and is slow but consistent. He has been maturing bit by bit, both physically and technically.
