Eric HICKS
HICKS, Eric
STRENGTHS: Undersized forward but with an incredible energy. Athletically exceptional, he jumps with impressive ease. Springy legs, he can jump many times in a row. Has the footwork to defend away from the paint. Good rebounder and in dynamic situations. He has technique and instinct. Does a good job on defense, he can guard bigger guys, he helps out and can pop out for the unexpected blockshot. Plays on offense with determination, he never stops moving. WEAKNESSES: Has two important problems: his height, he’s very short, and the lack of talent on offense. He only scores from occasional situations. He neither has a reliable face-up shot nor any post-up moves. Has to work on his technique and touch. His game is the one of a 5 rather than a 4, but he has the height of a 3. The game does not come easily to him. Exuberant. Percentages? Free-throws ? CAREER: He came out of the prestigious college of Cincinnati. He had little playing time in his debut year and little impact. However, he kept improving all the time. He was in the third ideal starting five of his conference as a junior and made the Big East ideal five as a senior thanks to a season at 13.7ppg and 9rpg. Made European debut at Oostende, Belgium (13pts, 5.8rbds), in 2006-07. Good in Poland, a failure in Russia. Signed for Anwil Wloclawek in summer 2010. EVALUATION: A player with limited talent but with an impressive competitive spirit. Technically unrefined, he can, however, make the difference with rebounds and athletic plays. He has a physical style of play and he’s aggressive. He’s not afraid to face bigger guys and take shots. If he works on his mid-range shooting, he could be material for average or high-level European leagues.
