Corey BELSER
BELSER, Corey
STRENGTHS: Versatile outside player. A defensive specialist, he earns his salary with what he does in his half court, using his innate mentality and his excellent physical and athletic attributes. Good size, he’s tall and strong, has long arms, he can guard smaller or bigger guys. He gives a hand on the boards and is useful in dynamic situations. Humble, excellent attitude. WEAKNESSES: Important on defense but he has very little impact on the other end of the court. Virtually impotent on offense, he does not have a feel for the game, he rushes his decisions, he does not help to run the plays and makes careless mistakes. Outside shooting improved of late but he still has to work on it. He can score with occasional athletic drives, but the quality is extremely low. CAREER: He made himself notice thanks to a good college career at San Diego. He had an injury in 2003 but fully recovered. He broke out in his senior year, when he finally reached double figures. He proved he could play defense as he was named defender of the year of the WCC and one the best in the USA. Surprisingly moved to the Finnish league after his best season in Greece with 10pts and 3.9rbds. EVALUATION: He has the reputation of a solid defender in the USA and he proved he could have an important impact in that department in Europe. He’s an athlete that sacrifices for the good of the team, but who does not have much offensive talent. His shooting is on the up but he neither has a game nor a feel for the game. He does not contribute enough on the offensive end. He needs to make further progress.
