Marko BANIC
BANIC, Marko
STRENGTHS: Power forward who likes to play around the basket. Mature for his age, he knows how to move on the court and has a good attitude. Intelligent, he knows what he has to do, what he can do and he does not overdo it. He takes high-percentage shots and makes few mistakes. Does a good job of working the line and finishing off near the basket with his excellent technique and his good use of the body. A threat on the offensive glass. WEAKNESSES: A center trapped in a forward’s body. He is short and lacks athleticism (footwork, explosiveness, leaping ability) which makes it difficult for him to drive in traffic from a standstill. He needs to add range to his shooting, he can’t shoot threes. He’s not much of a threat off the dribble. He shows a good attitude on defense but lacks the physical attributes, especially on the rebounds. CAREER: Born in Zara, he played in the youth teams of his hometown before breaking out in 2003-04 when he averaged double figures in the Adriatic league. He kept improving greatly year after year. In 2004-05, he was the 5th scorer with 17.3ppg, earning himself a call from the senior national team after being a star in the junior ones. He was signed by Girona, Spain, before being loaned. He has been in Bilbao for years and has never ceased to get better. EVALUATION: A player with limited talent but with an extremely high basketball IQ. He takes the best out of his potential. He knows how to use his body like very few modern centers do. He possesses a good technique and a soft touch. He proved he could lead the offense when he was at Zadar. In the ACB, he had a difficult start but worked on his technique and shooting and quickly became a central figure for Bilbao.
