Serkan ERDOGAN
ERDOGAN, Serkan
STRENGTHS: One of the best shooters in Europe. Has an immediate impact coming off the bench, excellent mentality, disciplined, likes a well-structured game typical of the best teams. Physically solid and powerful, He knows how to hold his own on the court. He’s clever and patient. Can hit the three coming off the screens, catch-and-shoot, with stop-and-pop, in transition. High self confidence. A competitor. WEAKNESSES: Neither an athlete nor an explosive player. Has got slow feet and has little leaping ability. On offense, he tends to conclude the plays rather than create them. Struggles to create his own shot and drive past his defender off the dribble, rarely drives in and, as a consequence, draws very few fouls. Gives very little to the team apart from points: does not help much creating plays, is not a factor on the boards and is just average on defense. CAREER: Had a very tricky start of career. He was good at Tuborg but then struggled in a Tofas team full of stars. Moved to Ulker after two seasons at 3.3ppg and 3.6rpg. It looked as though he was about to become a star in Istanbul but then was suspended 2 years for doping. He had quite a difficult come back to the basketball courts but made the breakthrough in 2004-05 (16.7ppg in Euroleague). Settled in very well from the start of his arrival at Tau, did OK at Efes, then had a major impact at Ankara. Back in the ACB with Alicante in summer 2010. EVALUATION: A couple of great seasons in the past might have enhanced his reputation too much. Still, he’s a great player and one of the best shooters in Europe. With this weapon, he can be clutch at any level. Threes and immediate impact on the scoreboard is pretty much everything that is asked and expected of him once he’s sent on the court.
