Nikos ARGYROPOULOS
ARGYROPOULOS, Nikos
STRENGTHS: A point-guard that gets the maximum out of his potential. Prototype of the Greek player, perfect in a rigid system because he knows how to run a team and set the tempo. He does not make mistakes, he does not pretend to have many shots but has the attributes to take the responsibility when needed. He will throw his body for a loose ball, he goes for the rebound in traffic and does a lot of dirty work, especially on defense. WEAKNESSES: Very limited talent. Lightweight, he lacks size and muscles. Athleticism is almost non-existent: he neither has quickness nor explosiveness. He struggles when he is under pressure. Ball-handling ability is not sufficient. He does not score many points: he’s unreliable from three and only drives in to kick it out. He does not have the quality to be a star. CAREER: He was part of the Greek youth national team, even though he had a minor role. He took part in the European Championships U18 in 1996, but he did not emerge. He played for many years at Apollo. He had three seasons in double figures in the Greek second division (career year: 18ppg in 2002-03). He moved to Olimpiacos without having the minimal impact. After two decent seasons at Panellinios, he was stuck on Aris’ bench and accepted a major role in the lower division. EVALUATION: Typical player of the Greek league, appreciated in teams without much talent thanks to his fighting spirit and courage. He neither has the talent nor the athleticism to aim for a higher level. The seasons played at Olimpiacos and Aris were a testimony of this, he played very little and without leaving his mark. Probably an ESAKE player for life, as a starter in low-profile teams.
