Patrick FEMERLING
FEMERLING, Patrick
STRENGTHS: Big and tall center. Without being a great talent, he’s a player who’s done a good job of improving all the time, becoming an important rotation player in top teams. Moves very well around the court and makes a good use of his body. Good as a 1-on-1 or help defender, it’s hard to shoot above him. Can score a few points as he possesses an assortment of moves and a decent technique. WEAKNESSES: Stiff body. Struggles to bend and his lateral mobility is slow. Struggles on defense when he has to leave the paint. Tends to get into foul trouble easily as he finds it difficult to control his body and exuberance. Has the mentality of a team player rather than a star. Given his size, he should learn to make better use of his power while playing in the low post. CAREER: Played college basketball in North America, at the University of Washington. However, he has played his entire club career in Europe. After his debut in Germany, he became an important player of top level teams such as Panathinaikos, Greece, or Barcellona in Spain. Prestigious coach such as Svetislav Pesic (FC Barcelona) and Zelimir Obradovic (Panathinaikos) thought highly of him. Has been the center of the German national team for years. Played three of the last four years in Alba Berlin with court time diminishing. EVALUATION: He’s not an elegant player and nor does he have natural talent but he’s a center with size who has a good understanding of his position. Result-wise, he went above the expectations. Wherever he’s been, he’s always done his bit whether it be at club or international level. Will not perform any miracles at any level but he knows what he can do and does not overdo it.
