Vincent MASINGUE
MASINGUE, Vincent
STRENGTHS: Energetic frontline player: capacity to sacrifice and play the 4 or 5 position. True competitor, he’s intimidating and loves the contact. He does an awful lot of dirty work in his half court. Difficult to get in the paint when he’s there. He defends well and does not bite on fakes. His warrior attitude is contagious. He never has a break. Humble on offense, he can score with his right hand hook. WEAKNESSES: His main worry has to be controlling his exuberance. His physical style sometimes leads him to go over the boundaries, wasting blatant and useless fouls. He can totally lose his focus. Athletically average, no leaping ability. Mediocre rebounder, too much under the rim. He does not have a great feel for the game on offense. He’s short which makes things difficult for him in traffic. He lacks a perimeter game and a reliable three-point shot. CAREER: He made a name for himself at the top level with Levallois (11ppg, 6rpg in 1998-99). He moved to Pau Orthez, but did very little there. He signed for Montpellier where (half way through the season) he showed all his qualities (13.3ppg, 8.8rpg). He moved to Nancy, where he had some very positive seasons. So much so that he made it to the national team. In 2005-06, he went back to Lyon. Averaged a double double in his first season at Hyeres-Toulon in 2007-09 and did well the next too. Minutes and stats clearly diminished in 2009-10. EVALUATION: He has never been a start, but in France he’s been an important player, constantly amongst the best inside players of the league. He couldn’t be a star because of a lack of talent and athleticism, but thanks to his style he remained a valuable player until the recent decline as he is a veteran. Does he feel the need to be important in the team?
