Mario KASUN
KASUN, Mario
STRENGTHS: Center with combination of size and athleticism that would be suited to the NBA. Tall, big, broad-shouldered, physically strong. Runs the floor like a sprinter. Excellent footwork and leaping ability for a guy his size. Intimidating at both end of the court. Does a good job of blocking shots and has a good defensive mentality. Relies a lot on his athleticism on offense. WEAKNESSES: His technical evolution has never been completed. He remains an exuberant player with few weapons. Fundamentally ordinary, should add range to his shooting. Low percentage from the line. Does not possess a low post game. Tends to struggle to receive when at a standstill, bobbles passes and passing skills is lacking as well. Still has to learn to control his emotions and to use his body as he tends to get into foul trouble easily. CAREER: Has a very strange history. Came up in Zrienjevac, tried to come to Gonzaga but never played because of eligibility problem. Picked at the NBA draft second round without having played meaningful basketball. He started off his pro-career in Frankfurt where he showed potential but without being consistent. Spent two seasons in the NBA without playing. Role player at Barcelona and Efes in last four years. Signed for Zagreb in summer 2010. EVALUATION: Had everything it takes to become one of the best frontline players in Europe. He failed to gain playing time in the NBA where his size and athleticism were not enough. However, his physical qualities were used in top European teams thanks to his good combination of size and athleticism in the old continent. Still too exuberant. Who can root him out of position and push him away from the basket?
