Carlos CABEZAS
CABEZAS, Carlos
STRENGTHS: Point-guard with a good body structure. Excellent team player, can come off the bench and contribute straight away. Tough minded and fearless player. Good understanding of the game, does what the team requires. Has character, might not be a top scorer but he can help to run the systems and set the tempo on offense. Fundamentally sound, makes few mistakes and plays with heart. WEAKNESSES: Always gives hundred per cent but he’s not extremely talented. He’s not a great athlete; he’s neither quick nor explosive, very little leaping ability. On offense, he is no nonsense. However, he struggles to create plays. His first step does not allow him to drive by his opponents off the dribble, his three-point shooting is inconsistent and his shooting release is too slow on the Pick & Roll. CAREER: Grew up in Malaga and he’s played for years with this team. He made his debut in 1999-2000 and the following year, he already had an impact in the team. He’s tallied his best figures in 2006-07 and 07-08 after a few average seasons. He signed for the ambitious Khimki team in 2009-10 before coming back home to Spain with Zaragoza in the summer. One of the stars of the youth national team (17ppg at the Under20 World Championship), he became important as well at senior level, helping the national team win the 2006 World Championship. EVALUATION: Good player, very useful beyond the stats as he knows what he has to do and always has an impact when coming off the bench. He might not be a natural born talent but he still has margin for improvement. A very much appreciated player with a lot of qualities. There were doubts to whether he could become a starter at the highest level because said not to be creative enough but he proved he could be one of the best point-guards in the ACB.
