Damir RANCIC
RANCIC, Damir
STRENGTHS: Great shooter. He can be a good second offensive option. Slender figure, he can fill both outside positions. Extremely quick, he has excellent feet and reflexes. Good mover without the ball, he takes advantage of his teammates’ work. He manages to pull away from his defender thanks to his quickness, score with the jumper, off the dribble, coming off the screens. He’s not afraid to drive in traffic. WEAKNESSES: A pure finisher, he does not create a lot for his teammates. Average passing and dribbling skills. He needs to take many shots and neither the percentages nor the decision making will ever be his forte. He lacks a good 1-on-1 game and stands around the perimeter too much. He has to improve physically (little strength). Below average defender, he lacks quality and will. CAREER: He came up with Split after a season at 20ppg in the Croatian A2 before even turning 18. In Split, he improved year after year, starting under the 5ppg in his debut season to reach double figures two years later. He did so well that he earned a call from the major national team. 15ppg in the Adriatic league the following year and finally the move to Cibona, where he struggled. Went abroad for a couple of seasons (Kiev and Panellinios) before coming back home with Zadar, where he did fairly well in 2009-10. EVALUATION: A guard with offensive potential. He plays in a monochord way and needs to be fed by his teammates to produce points but overall, his aggressiveness and lethal shooting is most appreciated. Did extremely well with a starring role but struggled a lot more when he had limited tasks, like at Cibona in a role that was not suited to his technical characteristics and character.
