Giorgos APOSTOLIDIS
APOSTOLIDIS, Giorgos
STRENGTHS: Versatile outside player, he can play either 2 or 3. Lefty, he has the size of the forward and the fundamentals and personality of the point-guard. Good attitude, he has a team-first mentality, he does a lot on the court and does not pretend to take many shots. He takes responsibility in the crunch time. Good ball-handling ability and court vision. He makes the defense work with his kick outs. He can score tough basket with drives. Reliable. WEAKNESSES: Typical player who can do a bit of everything but does not excel in any department. He’s an atypical player, who needs an open style of play to render. Athletically slightly below average, he’s not very quick. On offense, his main drawback is his lack of consistency in his outside shooting. His percentages are irregular and overall, he’s not a big scorer. Limited talent. CAREER: Despite being still young, he already has the experience of a veteran. Born in Thessaloniki, he started in the ESAKE when he was 17. He had little playing time at PAOK and moved to Iraklis in summer 2003. He played two seasons without much success and in 2004-05 he signed for Olimpia, where he did well, playing in the FIBA Challenge too. Did a decent job on average teams of the top division like Larissa and Trikala but couldn’t do much in his spell at the next level with Panellinios. EVALUATION: Interesting player. He does not have dazzling talent but he’s solid. He’s different from the stereotype of the Greek player. He does a bit of everything and moves well on the court. He has the personality and attributes to take responsibility. He does not have one big strength and the Greek league is not ideal for his characteristics. He does not have margin for improvement.
