Ian HANAVAN
HANAVAN, Ian
STRENGTHS: Versatile power forward. A player with great personality, a vocal leader on the court. He takes responsibility, fights on defense against bigger guys. Not afraid to put his body in the way to provoke the offensive foul. Excellent rebounder. On offense, he does just about everything: he can pass, dribble, attack the rim, post up to shoot or kick out. Good court vision, he can score from 3. WEAKNESSES: If he had just a little bit extra talent (technique and athleticism), he could play at a superior level. On offense, he gets carried away because of his will to do well. He alternates excellent plays with careless mistakes. He does not show much quality. Inconsistent from three, and his shooting selection and percentages are poor. The game does not come easily to him. He’s short. CAREER: He’s from a little town of the Illinois. He played in the University of his state (Illinois-Chicago) before moving to Evansville. He broke out in his senior year (16.3ppg, 7.1rpg) when he entered the second ideal starting five of his conference. He started his European career in Holland (18.5ppg, 12.2rpg) and in 2004-05 he signed for Leuven (top scorer-rebounder of the team). Two more years in Belgium before averaging 17.9pts and 6.8rbds in the Czech league. Not as influential at Nymburk. Cyprus is his last stop. EVALUATION: An atypical 4, he can have moments of brilliance in which his versatility is in evidence, but he can also get out of control because of bad decision-making. He needs a team with a style of play suited to his characteristics. In the right context, he can be a good weapon thanks to his versatility and personality. Should not be asked to be the star, he does not have the quality for it.
