Pape Badiane
BADIANE, Pape
STRENGTHS: African origins, he has the typical physical attributes of these players. Has an excellent mentality, a team player, he plays with will and energy. He does not need to feel involved. He scores some points finishing off from kick outs. Top-shelve leaping ability, he’s quick. A factor on the boards. A presence on defense, a shot blocker. CAREER: Senegal name but he was born and grew up in France. He started at Montpellier before playing in American high school. He was recruited by Cleveland State college (not one of the top level), where he played four years without impressing (7.3ppg, 5.3rpg in senior year). After his US experience, he signed for Roanne, back in France, where he won the league title in 2007. Played Euroleague minutes with Le Mans without convincing before being a starter again at Poitiers from summer 2009. EVALUATION: He’s not a phenomenon but an excellent player, who gets the best out of his physical and athletic potential and can adapt to a minor role. Does not influence much the offense. He has to improve on the decision making to step up a level, but does he have the character to do so? On defense, he is intimidating, he blocks shots and helps out in the paint.
