Ian MAHINMI
MAHINMI, Ian
STRENGTHS: A player made for the NBA. Has size, long arms. Plays with energy and emotion, he loves to run the floor. His footwork is impressive for a player of his size. He can play defense outside the paint, very good at help-and-recover in Pick & Roll situations. On offense, he's aware of his limitations, is mature and effective on open court and he’s a tremendous finisher on the break. WEAKNESSES: Has had a slow progress. On offense, he's still a work in progress, with few low-post moves and run-of-the-mill technical skills. One-dimensional, he lacks a post-up jumper, has a suspect touch. Needs to have a decent playing time in order to have an impact on the game. CAREER: Came up in the youth teams of Le Havre, showed up at the 2004 Under 18 European Championships where he was one of the surprises of the tournament: 7ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.8bpg playing just over 20 mpg. In Le Havre he has been an important rotation player since 2004-05 showing all his potential. Selected by San Antonio in the first round of the 2005 NBA draft, he spent two years in the NBDL before having a few appearances with the Spurs in 2009-10. Traded to the Mavs. EVALUATION: A bit disappointing. After doing great in a team with little ambition which gave him a lot of minutes, he hasn't shown the improvements expected from him, both on offense and defense and in terms of personality on the court. Still, he had great potential with excellent feet considering his size and made it in the NBA. Lost two years in the NBDL and has currently limited minutes with Dallas.
