Greg BRUNNER
BRUNNER, Greg
STRENGTHS: Frontline player with great physical intensity. Impressive size. He plays hard but he is correct when contact occurs. Decent quickness, he’s a powerful leaper on the move. Good attitude, he plays with energy, never stops working. Excellent without the ball and on the rebounds. On offense, he scores points in the paint. He can face up, shoot from 3 or make assists. WEAKNESSES: Little natural talent, he sometimes overdoes it on offense. He’s big but he’s a bit short to play as a 5. He lacks vertical leap from a standstill. Average footwork in narrow spaces. On offense, he does things a bit randomly, he takes hurried shots and charges head down. Not a threat in 1-on-1. Makes a few too many mistakes (turnovers). Poor free-throw shooter. CAREER: He had 4 excellent years in the decent Iowa college with an emerging coach, Steve Alford. Following his freshman year, he always averaged double figures, reaching 14.7ppg in his senior year. Made the ideal starting five of the Big 10 as a senior. Took part in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament with 13ppg and 9.7rpg. Not picked, he did the Las Vegas summer league with Minnesota without having an impact (3.3ppg, 6rpg). Belgium was his first European experience, he went to Italy and got his big chance at Treviso in summer 2010 following a great season at Montegranaro. EVALUATION: Seemed just a good player for the European leagues of the second zone but he made great progress through the years, especially in his shooting. He came out of the important Big Ten, he’s a tough guy who makes his presence felt in the paint and who has an interesting three-point shot. Most appreciated competitive spirit.
