REESE, George
STRENGTHS: Can play both forward positions. At his best as a 4 playing on the perimeter. Offensive talent, he can score points. He’s tall and has a decent athleticism. The games comes easily to him on offense, he’s a threat as a face up player but also in the low post. Has the moves of an outside player, very fluid. He can shoot from three, hit the jumper and dribble. He has technique and touch in the post. Good footwork and he uses his left hand. A pure scorer.
WEAKNESSES: Main drawback is his attitude. Not physical at all, he does not play with fighting spirit. He needs to touch the ball a lot and have an important role on offense, otherwise he disappears from the game and his flaws emerge. Very bad performer on defense, he does not have the quickness to guard a 3 and the will to work hard against the 4. Plays with little energy, he’s not much of a presence in the paint. He only plays on the offensive end.
CAREER: Born in Ohio, he played in a Junior college before moving to Ohio State, in one of the best conference in the USA. In his senior year, he averaged 12.7ppg and 5.8rpg and was invited at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. Not picked in the NBA, he started his pro career in the US minors. In Europe, he settled in well in Poland, first at Starogard (16.6ppg, 5.3rpg) and then at Stal. Poor spell in Germany, he came back to Poland, in Koszalin since 2007-08.
EVALUATION: If he wanted to, he could be an excellent modern 4 in many important European leagues. Unfortunately for him (and his coaches!) he does not show any will to fight on defense and ends up ruining all the good done on the offensive end, where he has talent and many ways of scoring the basket. Better as a star in low-level league than as an offensive specialist at a superior level.
