Fenerbahce Ulker took the biggest showdown in the Turkish League this weekend by edging Efes Pilsen 70-72 in overtime on the road on Sunday. Fener leads the standings at 25-3 and became the regular season champion while Efes dropped to 20-8. Roko Ukic paced the winners with 19 points. Oguz Savas added 17, Marko Tomas had 11 while Emir Preldzic got 10 for Fener. Igor Rakocevic had 20 points for Efes while Kerem Gonlum added 19 for the hosts, that led 57-52 with 3 minutes left in regulation. Fener rallied to get a 59-62 edge, Rakocevic struck from downtown but Gonlum missed free throws to win the game for Efes. Tomas gave Fener a 70-72 edge with 7 seconds left but Lawrence Roberts missed from downtown at the buzzer. Galatasaray Cafe Crown improved to 22-6 by beating Besiktas Cola Turka 81-73 at home on Monday behind 24 points on 10-of-11 two-pointers by Ermal Kuqo. Caner Topaloglu added 16 while Preston Shumpert had 13 for Galatasaray. AJ Ogilvy led Besiktas with 18 points. Serkan Erdogan added 17 while Marcelus Kemp had 13. Both teams were tied at 62-62 but Shumpert and an outstanding Copaloglu took care of business in crunch time. Banvit thrashed Aliaga Petkin 63-93 on the road on Sunday behind 19 points from Keith Simmons and 17 each from Juan Dixon and Chuck Davis. Banvit led 31-45 at halftime, boosted its margin to 45-72 after 30 minutes and never looked back. In other games, Mersin thrashed Oyak 96-64, Trabzonspor edged Erdemir 85-79, Turk Telekom topped Bornova 74-67, Tofas beat Olin Edirne 68-63 while Karsiyaka defeated Antalya 101-79 behind 21 points from Andre Smith.
