Pepsi Caserta provided the biggest surprise in the Italian League this weekend by downing Montepaschi Siena 89-84 at home on Sunday. Caserta improved to 9-10 while Montepaschi still leads the standings at 17-2. Jumaine Jones and Fabio Di Bella paced the winners with 16 points apiece. Timmy Bowers and Ebi Ere each added 12, Lukasz Koszarek had 11 while Eric Williams got 10 for Caserta. Rimas Kaukenas led Montepaschi with 18 points. David Moss added 16 while Milovan Rakovic and Ksistof Lavrinovic each had 10 for the guests, that led 45-51 at halftime. Jones, Di Bella and Bowers allowed Caserta to get a 73-65 edge after 30 minutes and Caserta managed to stay ahead in crunch time until the final buzzer. AJ Milano improved to 14-5 by edging Enel Brindisi 74-76 in overtime on the road on Sunday behind 19 points from Lynn Greer and 16 from Oleskiy Pecherov. free throws by Greer allowed Milano to win the game in the final seconds. Lottomatica Roma improved to 8-10 by topping Air Avellino 80-70 in the Italian capital on Sunday. Charles Smith led the winners with 22 points - all in the fourth quarter. Vladimir Dasic added 15, Luigi Datome had 13 while Ali Traore got 10 for Roma, that trailed 47-51 after 30 minutes but Smith took over since that moment to singlehandedly win the game. Bennet Cantu moved up to 13-5 by thrashing Banca Tercas Teramo 69-96 on the road also on Sunday. Nicolas Mazzarino led the winners with 26 points. Jonathan Tabu added 17, Manu Markoishvili had 16 while Ben Ortner and Maarten Leunen each got 12 in an easy road win for Cantu. Benetton registered a 74-68 road loss against Cimberio Varese despite 20 points from Devin Smith. Greg Brunner added 16, Donatas Motiejunas 12 and Alessandro Gentile 11. In other games, Canadian Solar Bologna edged Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro 71-70, Vanoli-Braga Cremona downed Fabi Shoes Montegranaro 67-89 while Dinamo Sassari bested Angelico Biella 74-94 behind 25 points from James White.
