PGE Turow Zgorzelec, Asseco Prokom Gdynia and Energa Czarni Slupsk took a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five Polish League Quarterfinal playoffs series with respective home wins on Saturday. Prokom left no doubt about its power by thrashing ASZ Koszalin 106-82 in Gdynia. Robert Witka led 7 players in double digits with 19 points. Krzysztof Szubarga added 17, Ratko Varda had 14, Courtney Eldridge and Ronnie Burrell each got 13, Tommy Adams contributed 11 while Piotr Szczkota tallied 10 in an easy home win for Prokom, that led 62-48 at halftime and never looked back. Turow needed overtime to edge PBG Basket Poznan 73-72 in Zgorzelec behind 19 points from Torey Thomas, including free throws to send the game to overtime, 63-63. A late block by Marko Brkic allowed Turow to win it down the stretch. Czarni downed Polpharma Starogard Gd. 89-70 with 16 points from William Avery. Anwil Wloclawek bounced back from its initial loss in the series by beating Trefl Sopot 68-76 on the road on Saturday. Series is tied at 1-1 but Anwil hosts Games 3 and 4 next week. Andrzej Pluta paced the winners with 23 points. Lukasz Majewski added 12 while DJ Thompson and Seid Hajric each had 10 for Anwil. Chris Thomas sank 5-of-6 free throws in the final 16 seconds to make Anwil put a key win on ice.
