Maccabi Electra avenged its lone defeat of the Israeli League season by crushing Bnei Hasharon on the road 67-113 on Sunday. Maccabi jumped to a 15-1 record while Bnei Hasharon fell into a tie for third place at 9-7. Maccabi raced out to a 3-20 start and the result was never in doubt after that. Sofoklis Schortsanitis accounted for 22 points in 16 minutes, Doron Perkins collected 18 in 20 minutes, Lior Eliyahu added 15 and Chuck Eidson finished with 14 for the winners. Dan Grunfeld scored 11 points and Lee Nailon had 10 in defeat. Hapoel Jerusalem lost 83-80 at Rishon Lezion, but remained in second place thanks to Bnei Hasharon’s loss. Jerusalem fought back from 17 points down entering the fourth quarter and seemingly forced overtime with a buzzer-beating Moshe Mizrahi three-pointer, but his foot was on the out of bounds line, cancelling the score and handing Rishon its fourth straight win. Aaron McGhee led the winners with 21 points and Nitzan Hanohi added 20 points. Jason Rich and Dion Dowell collected 17 points each and Will Solomon had 12 for Jerusalem. Hapoel Gilboa/Galil Elyon picked up an important 66-72 road win at Barak Netanya to tie Hasharon and Rishon in fourth place. Jack McClinton and Warren Carter scored 13 each and Tyler Wilkerson and the newly-signed Courtney Fells had 12 each for the winners. And Maccabi Haifa held on for a 95-81 home victory Maccabi Ashdod as Marco Killingsworth and Jermaine Jackson scored 20 points each and the latter added 8 assists.
