Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv returned to the Israeli League after its recent Turkish Airlines Euroleague success and found some resistance before beating Maccabi Haifa 98-95 on Sunday. Although the hosts had a double-digit lead after 10 minutes, Haifa played hard and led 88-95 with two-and-a-half minutes left in the fourth quarter after a Sylven Landesberg basket three-point play. Tel Aviv did not flinch and reeled off 10 unanswered points to finish the game with the win. Guy Pnini and Haifa’s Jermaine Jackson were ejected for fighting in the closing minutes. Jeremy Pargo poured in 22 points and 12 assists and Chuck Eidson added 15 points and 10 assists to lead Tel Aviv. Pnini and Richard Hendrix also netted 15 points apiece. Landesberg paced Haifa with 20 points. Hapoel Gilboa/Galil edged Hapoel Jerusalem 82-84 after overtime in the capital. Guny Israeli forced overtime for Galil and the visitors scored 8 unanswered points in the extra session to take control for good. Courtney Fells led Galil with 19 points, while Yuval Naimy paced Jerusalem with 22. Also Sunday, Ashdod upended Eldan Ashkelon 84-104 on the road behind 21 points and 11 rebounds from Josh Duncan.
