VEREMEENKO, Vladimir
STRENGTHS: Power forward with great size and athleticism. Tall, broad-shouldered, powerful, dynamic and mobile, he’s an excellent leaper. At his best when he can run in to the spaces inside, he has the necessary size to score in traffic, he plays without fear. Decent on offense, he can shoot from mid-range and from three. A threat in athletic situations: block shots, rebounds.
WEAKNESSES: His main flaws are a lack of instinct and intelligence. Poor understanding of the game, he tends to be confused and take hurried decisions. He does not have a real offensive game or a defined position. He has to be more consistent as a shooter to be a modern 4. He does not score many points. Naive on defense, not adept at helping. He tends to suffer when it becomes physical.
CAREER: Born in Gomel, Byelorussia, he played on teams of the ex-USSR until 2002-03, when he moved to the ambitious Saratov. He had two excellent seasons there, always averaging double figures in the Russian league. And then he signed for St Petersburg, where he stayed two years doing well too. Played the last three years at Kazan but his numbers are decreasing. A second round pick of the NBA draft by Washington in 2006.
EVALUATION: Top level athletic and physical potential. He failed to progress much on his technique and consistency. An excellent player that combines power and verticality, capable of having an impact on rebounds and athletic situations but he still has to prove he has the mental toughness and the will to improve to be a star.
