Alex ACKER
ACKER, Alex
STRENGTHS: A guard that can score many points. Good body structure, long-armed, solid and without excessive weight. Excellent body control, he has exceptional leaping ability. Quick with the ball, he creates space between him and his defender. He has an array of tools on offense. He likes to drive, even in traffic, he can score tough baskets. He has confidence in his ability. He runs on the fast break. WEAKNESSES: He has to refine and complete his game. On offense, he’s streaky, he has brilliant minutes but also spells in which he disappears. He can improve his shooting in terms of consistency. When he tries to be disciplined, he becomes less effective and when he focuses on the offense he tends to forget his teammates. CAREER: Second round pick (60) in the NBA draft 2005 after an excellent college career with Pepperdine, a college that sent many of its pupils to the pros. He lived an insignificant season with the Detroit Pistons, but he showed all his quality when he was sent to the NBDL. Impressive in the Las Vegas summer league in 2006: he averaged 18.4ppg and made the second ideal five. He played in top European teams: did much better at Olympiacos than Barcelona. Went briefly back to the NBA before making his return in Europe at a lower level. EVALUATION: A great talent. One of the Americans with more offensive potential to have landed in Europe in recent years. He can score in many ways, and has the feel for the game and the mentality to do it. The combination of technique, athleticism and confidence makes him a player capable of taking over at any moment on offense. He needs to complete his game but he has time and what it takes to do it. Signed in France this summer, could be the right decision to get his career back on track and get back to the top.
