Diego FAJARDO
FAJARDO, Diego
STRENGTHS: Versatile frontline player. He’s a tall and slim player, perfect for basketball. He can run the court all right, he can even push the ball up. Coordination is top notch. He’s dynamic and he does a good job of getting open to finish off from kick-outs. He’s a fighter on defense and helps on rebounds. The level of energy he puts in and the way he moves on court is much appreciated. WEAKNESSES: Inconsistent, he never managed to convince totally, alternating good and bad performances. He plays with great spirit but it often plays against him as he takes hurried shots and drives head down. Decision making is questionable. As a result, his percentages are not high. Lives off his emotions. He is not a leader. Dynamic but not explosive. CAREER: He used to be called the Kukoc from the Canary Island at the beginning of his career. He started in Valladolid, Spain, but then moved to Italy and Reggio Calabria in 1997-98. He played at Biella, Imola, Cantù but then broke out in Verona where he met coach Lino Lardo, becoming one of his soldiers. Then he returned to Reggio Calabria before playing the Euroleague with Milan. Three years back in the ACB before returning to Italy with Virtus Bologna in 2009-10. Signed for Varese in summer 2010. EVALUATION: An excellent player, who has been underestimated for a long time at his debut but he has always been useful in the different teams he played. He had a great opportunity at Milan, but at the top level, all his limitations were highlighted. He’s the prototype of the modern 4, capable of playing away from the basket and to attack it. He does not have the talent to play in a top team but he’s a valuable player.
