Regal FC Barcelona was the big winner on the opening day of the Torneig de Básquet Júnior “Ciutat de L’Hospitalet,” the second qualifying stop for the Nike International Junior Tournament. Barcelona won twice to secure first place in Group A and a berth into the tournament championship game on Thursday. The eight-team event at the Complex Esportiu L’Hopsitalet Nord in L’Hospitalet, Spain features six contests per day, with each team playing four games in total. Barcelona’s opponent in the final could be decided in Wednesday’s opening game, when Joventut Badalona faces Zalgiris Kaunas in a matchup of two 1-0 teams in Group B. However with all the Group B teams playing twice on Wednesday, anything is still possible. The tournament champion will play in the Nike International Junior Tournament at the 2011 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Barcelona. This tournament follows the first qualifier in the series, the Torneo Citta di Roma, which was won last week by Fenerbahce Ulker from Turkey, as it became the first junior team to punch its ticket to Barcelona.
