It was a case of nobody wanting to win it. Estudiantes Madrid had played near-perfect for almost 39 minutes against Vitoria and were two-points ahead, on the brink of a big upset. The Spanish champs made consecutive mistakes but Estu missed four times from the line, fuelling their opponent with more chances to snatch it at the death. A lay up blocked, a turnover, and more missed opportunities meant the score would not be altered for almost two minutes, for the joy of the home fans, who blew a big sigh of relief. This was Vitoria’s fourth defeat in the last five games while Estu is now 6-8 and keeps its (mathematic) hopes to make it in the cup alive.
