Bulgaria have lost Stefan Georgiev for the EuroBasket because of a knee injury he suffered during the preparations for the 24-team event.
The 2.06m center tore ligaments and will need at least three months to recover before he can resume basketball activities.
He is the third player lost by the national side with Pavel Ivanov and Kostadin Marshavelski also forced out due to injuries.
The loss of the 33-year-old Georgiev has left the national team needing a new captain so veteran Filip Videnov has been made skipper in his absence.
Georgiev played for his country at the EuroBaskets in 2005 and 2009.
The Bulgarians will play in Group D against Russia, Slovenia, Georgia, Ukraine and Belgium.
