Zalgiris Kaunas regained the Lithuanian Cup for the first time in three years by taking down archrival Lietuvos Rytas 69-81 on Sunday. The game was closer than the final score would indicate. A back and forth battle for three quarters, the score was tied at 53-53 late in the third quarter and L. Rytas was within 58-61 after a Milko Bjelica slam with just under six minutes remaining. However Paulius Jankunas drilled a triple and soon Travis Watson scored twice inside as the Zalgiris lead jumped to 62-70. Khalid El-Amin’s driving layup-plus-foul gave L. Rytas hope, but he missed the resulting free throw and Zalgiris scored the next 7 points with Mantas Kalnietis helping to seal the win with free throws and then a steal and slam in the final 35 seconds. Watson paced the winners with 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Jankunas and Tadas Klimavicius added 12 each. Kenan Bajramovic accounted for 21 points and 9 rebounds in a losing effort and D.J. Strawberry and Bjelica netted 11 apiece.
