Lietuvos Rytas addressed a need for backcourt depth with the signing of D.J. Strawberry for the remainder of the season. Strawberry (193, 25) arrives from Reno of the NBDL, where he averaged 13.9 points and 2.6 assists over 20 games this season. This marks his second stint in Europe after starting the 2008-09 season with Fortitudo Bologna. He averaged 14.7 points in six Eurocup games, including a 29-point effort in the season opener, but his time in Italy was cut short by a knee injury. Strawberry has been in the spotlight throughout his career. His father is former Major League Baseball All-Star Darryl Strawberry, which caused D.J. to have a following already in high school. He chose to play college basketball at the University of Maryland, but his career was interrupted by an ACL injury during his senior year. Strawberry bounced back and was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team and ACC All-Defensive Team after averaging 14.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2 steals as a senior. He has also played for Phoenix of the NBA and Albuquerque of the NBDL. He helps fill a backcourt void created by guards Sarunas Jasikevicius, Jerry Johnson and Igor Milosevic all leaving since the end of the regular season.
