Regal FC Barcelona regained the top spot in the Spanish League over the weekend with a big win coupled with a Real Madrid loss. Barcelona crushed Blancos De Rueda Valladolid 77-53 as Erazem Lorbek led a well-balanced effort with 16 points. Juan Carlos Navarro added 12 as every Barcelona player scored at least one basket. The hosts raced to a 43-24 halftime lead en route to a victory that lifted their record to 24-6. Madrid, which entered the weekend tied for first, fell 86-84 at CAI Zaragoza. The Whites were shorthanded without the injured Pablo Prigioni and Sergio Llull. The game went back and forth into the fourth quarter. Madrid led by 5 with 10 minutes to go, Zaragoza went on a 20-5 charge to take control. Madrid came back with hot shooting and Sergio Rodriguez had a chance to tie it at the buzzer, but missed and Zaragoza celebrated the win. Paolo Quinteros and Andres Miso paced Zaragoza each with 15 points. Carlos Suarez and Felipe Reyes led Madrid with 14 apiece. Power Electronics Valencia picked up with 21st win by beating Menorca Basquet 65-74 on the strength of 22 points from Nando De Colo and 17 from Rafa Martinez. Caja Laboral remains one win behind Valencia after beating Bizkaia Bilbao Basket 89-75 in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicates. Mirza Teletovic paced the winners with 18 points and Marcelinho Huertas tallied 15 points and 7 assists. Unicaja took care of Meridiano Alicante 90-78 on the strength of 22 points from Gerald Fitch. In other games, C.B. Granada defeated DKV Joventut 94-65, Fuenlabrada edged Assignia Manresa 55-54 and Gran Canaria 2014 downed Lagun Aro GBC 79-74.
