Brose Baskets Bamebrg’s grip on first place in the German League grew tighter over the weekend with a 68-55 win over New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig, which entered the weekend in a virtual three-way tie for third place. Kyle Hines and Reyshawn Terry led a 14-0 Bamberg run in the opening quarter as the defending champs took control early and cruised to a victory that improved their record to 22-1. Brian Roberts scored 14 off the bench, Tibor Pleiss added 12 and Terry had 11 for a balanced Bamberg attack. Marcus Goree’s 17 points and 10 rebounds were not enough for Braunschweig. Alba Berlin fell back in the standings after an 89-84 overtime loss at EnBW Ludwigsburg. Berlin was held scoreless in the final minute-and-a-half of overtime, allowing Ludwigsburg to snatch the win. Alex Harris led Ludwigsburg with 19 points. Immanuel McElroy scored 16 and Bryce Taylor had a double-double for Alba. Artland Dragons routed Gloria Giants Dusseldorf 65-91 and took advantage of Berlin and Braunschweig’s losses to take sole possession of third place at 15-7. Tyrese Rice scored 27 and Daren Fenn tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Dragons. Deutsche Bank Skyliners remains in second place after downing Eisbaren Bremerhaven 56-71 on the road. DaSHaun Wood was a one-man wrecking crew for Frankfurt with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. EWE Baskets Oldenburg held on to beat BG Goettingen 74-70 in an important middle-of the-standings clash. Ricky Paulding led Oldenburg with 21 points and 6 steals and Mindaugas Lukauskis added 18 points. Trent Meacham scored 20 for Goettingen in defeat. In other games, ratiopharm Ulm blasted LTi Giessen 46ers, Walter Tigers Tubingen edged BBC Bayreuth, TBB Trier topped Phoenix Hagen and Telekom Baskets Bonn beat Mitteldeutscher BC.
