Albert OLIVER
OLIVER, Albert
STRENTHS: A true point-guard who thinks first of his teammates but without forgetting to be threat on offense. He controls the tempo well, he knows when to push and when to clam things down. He is confident and takes initiatives, driving and kicking out (good change of pace). A threat from 3. He’s a solid player a makes very few mistakes. WEAKNESSES: Combination of size and athleticism is below average. Lightweight and not very muscled and in spite of this, he is not extremely quick. On offense, he is irregular, he has some excellent performance as well as sub par ones. He struggles to finish off his drives. He’s not comfortable when contact occurs. Little talent. Streaky shooter. Does not create much, especially as a passer. CAREER: He came out of Badalona’s youth program. He became a good player with Lleida where he had two good seasons. He moved to Manresa where his impact has been crucial in helping the team win promotion from the LEB (11.4ppg, 3.1rpg). In the ACB, he played four seasons with similar stats (10.5ppg). Had his big chance at Valencia where he did fine for three years. Moved to Estudiantes where he started to decline. EVALUATION: Had four consecutive seasons averaging double figures with Manresa, very few point guards can boast this record in the ACB. However, he does not have the talent to be an important player in ambitious teams, he’s not creative and he’s prone to have days when he produces very little. He’s intelligent and knows how to help the team. A solid substitute in the big teams or starter on a weaker team in the ACB.
